The ”Come to Finland XL” exhibition has opened

A selection of the historical travel posters published in ”Come to Finland” are now part of a newly opened exhibition in down town Helsinki. At the same time a virtual exhibition has been launched on the Internet.

Ever since last autumn, when the book was published, there have been plans for an exhibition where new prints of the vintage poster could be showed. The first exhibition was held at the Finland Institute in Stockholm this spring.

– We got really positive feedback on the Stockholm exhibition and that encouraged us to create an expanded exhibition with more posters here in Helsinki, says project manager and author Magnus Londen.

He says he is very satisfied with the exhibition premises, Café Kafka in the Svenska Teatern building.

– The central location is of course unbeatable. And the atmosphere in Kafka is perfect for vintage posters, they belong there. On top of that it is easy for anyone to swing by, drink a cup of coffee and have a closer look at this historical material, says Londen.

The project team has also opened an Internet exhibition where visitors can study some of the huge amount of background material that was collected in the research process. It is also possible to get a glimpse into the project team’s every day work.

– Luckily we started the documenting process from the beginning and that is now pretty fun material that we like to share with others. One golden nugget is the last, hysterical night before our deadline, says Joakim Enegren who was in charge of the documentation.

The exhibition at Café Kafka continues until the end of August and there is no admission. All four language editions are for sale in the Café bookshop (Finnish/Swedish, English, French and German).

The virtual exhibition is found here.
